CSA - Farm Stands - Pumpkin Patches
The concept of CSAs have been around since the 1960's. It began as a way for the community to help support local farms by buying shares in the farm over the winter, to help with the cost of maintaining and planting the fields, and were able to freely pick food over the rest of the growing season. It is a win-win for everyone: farmers get financial help to ease their lean winter months, and the community got to reap the delicious food they helped provide through their investment. CSAs are usually in the form of a produce box that is packed by the farmer. Recently, the Free Choice CSA has become a popular option. Free Choice CSA customers still pay in advance, but can then visit a farmstand or farmers' market booth and choose whatever items they want that day. In the directory below, a CSA is a traditional produce box CSA and a Free Choice CSA is the latter. There are also some options for delivery or pay as you go.
