Broccoli was mainly grown in Italy under the Roman Empire until the 16th Century when it was brought to France through a marriage.  The root of the word is broccolo, which means flowering top of a cabbage.
Seasonality:  In Humboldt, broccoli can be grown almost year round.  You will see some broccoli as late as February and as early as April.
