Landseeker: Seeking Land for Grazing and Produce.
Landseeker Description:
I am a young farmer with a special interest in the relationship between agriculture and land health and resilience. I don’t currently have my own farm business. I would describe my goals as community-oriented rather than business-oriented, but I am certainly open to producing food to bring to local markets. I would love to produce organic vegetables, medicine, and fruit, idealistically with a closed loop system involving on-site animal waste fertilizer, seed saving, and a biodynamic inspired schedule. But what I am most inspired to produce is a greater sense of food sovereignty in my community, especially for women, queer folks, & POC. Over the past few years, I have been taking classes on butchering & whole animal processing, and practicing this skill with friends and community members. This past summer, I taught a class for women & queer folks where we butchered a goat together.

Describe your farming experience.
I started farming when I was in college at the University of Tennessee in 2016. I work traded on one of the only urban farms providing CSA boxes in the county where I lived. That led to working for other farms in the area, including markets and management. After learning the basics of soil, seeds, and growing food, I sought to learn more about growing medicinal plants and making medicine. In 2019, I interned with Herb Pharm in Williams, OR. After that I moved to Humboldt, where I fell in love with the farm-centric culture. I have worked for farms including Earthly Edibles, I & I, Wild Rose, and Rain Frog. In addition to growing food, I also have ample experience with horses, sheep, goats, & poultry— including dairy production, culling & butchering experience. For the past year or so my days have been shaped by grazing my little goat herd (currently 8). My dream is to expand my access to land and thus my ability to share my food sovereignty skills with my community.
