What is a Farm to School Harvest Box?

Harvest Boxes are multi-farm CSAs, containing 5-6 items of 100% locally grown products from Humboldt County farmers.  Each box is $20, and Cal Fresh/EBT customers receive a discount that reduces the price to $10.  Boxes generally include: a green (such as lettuce, salad mix, kale, chard, cabbage), a couple staples (carrots, onions, beets, potatoes, tomatoes, herbs, dry beans), and a couple seasonal items (artichokes, asparagus, squash, fruit).

How does the program work?

DELIVERY SCHEDULE:

Mondays: Arcata to Trinidad Schools (weekly) & East County (every other week)

What do schools need to do?

School staff will : distribute information about Harvest Boxes to families, receive boxes on delivery days, ensure families take them home, communicate any challenges or changing needs to Harvest Hub staff!

NCGA/Harvest Hub will : provide outreach materials for parents including our contact information to field questions and provide assistance with setting up an account, provide an online marketplace where Harvest Boxes can be ordered and paid for using credit/debit cards or Cal Fresh/EBT cards, and work with school staff to identify challenges and solutions.
